Special Rules Only Seen in BBL
The Big Bash League loves to shake up cricket with fun, fast, and bold innovations.
Timed-Out Rule
New batters must be ready within 75 seconds. If not, the bowler gets a free delivery. This keeps matches moving quickly.
Power Surge
A second Powerplay of 2 overs with only 2 fielders outside the circle. Teams can use it anytime after the 11th over.
X-Factor Player
Teams name a 12th and 13th player. After the 10th over, one can be subbed in for a player who has batted/bowled max 1 over.
Bash Boost
At the halfway mark of the 2nd innings, the team with higher 10-over score wins a bonus Bash Boost point.
The Bat Flip
Instead of a coin toss, BBL decides who bats with a bat flip. The visiting captain calls front or back.
BBL Innovation
The BBL continues to innovate with fan-friendly rules that make every match exciting from ball one to the final ball.
How The BBL Tournament Works
The Big Bash League kicks off with a thrilling league stage where all 8 teams face off in action-packed matches. Every game counts, with teams battling for points to secure a top spot on the ladder.
Once the dust settles, the top five move into the finals series. First comes the Qualifier, where the top two teams clash for a direct ticket to the grand finale.
The fun doesn't stop there — the Knockout BBL and Challenger BBL matches give other teams a second shot at glory. And finally, it all ends with the BIG BASH LEAGUE FINAL, the ultimate showdown to crown the champion of summer!
